The Buckeye Farm Antiques Show in Sidney, Ohio was an extra show for our club. We were in a covered building where we set up Club Merchandise and some of our things. We stayed busy all weekend. As always our area was full of good conversations. I would like to thank everyone who brought a tractor. Special thanks to Steve Guider for sharing his lawn mower display – for the last time – for Steve has sold his collection. The highlight of the show was Richard Kimball bringing his stationary Hart Parr engine and running it.
There are great stories to tell about each tractor and owner.
I would like to share the Tom Emerson story. Tom and Lorna are from Wapakoneta, OH. The original homestead was bought by Tom’s father in 1938; 146 acres. Today Tom and Lorna live on 50 acres of the homestead. Tom has lived there his whole life. He had 4 tractors on display and here is what he had to say about them.
“This Oliver Hart Parr 70 is a 1937 model. Dad bought it in 1939. I started on this tractor cultivating and raking hay. This was our main tractor until 1950. It is now owned by my Great Grandson Joe Riethman.” Joe is also a Buckeye Oliver Collectors member.
“This was Dad’s 1949 row crop 88. He bought it in 1950. I started driving it when I was 10 years old. I drove it many hours. It is now owned by my Great Grandson Mitchell Riethman.” Mitchell is also a Buckeye Oliver Collectors member.
“This is our 1949 Oliver 77 with a loader. It is a newer addition to us. We use to farm and clean up fence rows.”
This 1953 Oliver row crop 77 is owned by my brother David Emerson. It was used for mowing the Reserve; this was 240 acres that was in the CRP government program for years. It is used for farming.”
